Ian couldn’t help but love how familiar Kat felt in his arms. It was as if she’d never left, and yet there was something different about her. She seemed more mature, more grown than when she’d left—all of which was understandable, of course. He loved her, and if anything he loved her more than he did when she’d left. Ian smiled down at her, his eyes taking in every aspect of her face. He’d barely been able to stand her leaving before, and he was certainly not letting it happen again. He’d be sure to go after her the next time, but deep down Ian didn’t feel he’d get the chance. He didn’t expect there to be a next time. He knew Kat, and somewhere in his heart, Ian felt she would never leave again.
Ian felt his chest swell with that blissful feeling he’d been missing for so long. He was ultimately happy, in a state of emotion that could only ever be caused by the woman he was holding. He hadn’t felt this way in years, the feeling being almost foreign but most definitely welcome. Ian smiled blissfully as Kat spoke, his heart fluttering as the words left her perfect mouth. There was no holding back the smile that took over his features, and Ian wasn’t about to try to. He was more of himself when he was around Kat; it was as if he felt more real beside her than he did when she was away.
“She has you as a mother,” he corrected, grinning softly. In all honestly, Ian didn’t much care what his daughter looked like, in the sense that Jaquelyn would be beautiful in his eyes no matter what. And with the way Ian had always looked at Kat, he didn’t expect his daughter to be anything less than absolutely adorable. “What’s she like?” he asked. “I want to know everything about her.” Indeed, Ian wanted to know everything he could about his child; there was no way he was going to stay unaware about his daughter and her personality any longer.

Kat couldn't help but love how she felt every time Ian held her in his arms. It was almost as if any thought she had ever had about running away back then never happened, that she had never left, that five years hadn't passed. Yet at the same time, she felt as if the five years had been quite real and had caused the feeling she felt every time she was with Ian to grow that much stronger, to feel that much more powerful as it pulsed through her entire body. It felt like the same man that held her so many years ago was holding her now, and yet, it felt like he was a complete stranger at the same time. It scared her, but it wasn't a bad thing.
If anything, the five years that the couple had spent apart had only made Kat's love for Ian grow stronger. How she could have possibly even considered leaving him so long ago was beyond her now as she looked up into his sea green eyes. The smile he gave her almost angelic and perfect in anyway, making her heart jump to her throat as she smiled back. Her dark eyes scanned his face, taking in everything that she had missed in that long span of time. It seemed like centuries since she'd been with him. Everything about him now seemed so much more attractive than she had remembered, so much more.... perfect. The fact popped into her mind as if by random, and the idea made her smile, eyes sparkling at the new idea. "I'm not going to leave this time," she spoke quietly, though her tone made it certain she was serious. It would be impossible for her to do so. "I'll never let it happen," she whispered, leaning her head back against his chest.
Happiness along with a mix of so many other emotions seemed to pulse through her body with not only each beat of her heart, but his too. It seemed as if they were in time with each other, a perfect fit. Like the beating of drums. It was something she had only felt with Ian, and never expected to feel it with anyone else, never wanted to feel it with anyone else. She watched as a smile seemed to take over Ian's entire body at her words, a smile she easily returned. There was just something about him that made her feel so high in the clouds and yet so grounded all at the same time. It was as if everything in the world made sense to her in that moment and yet so confusing. Still, she wouldn't give it up for the world.
With the confidence the two had in each other's appearances, it was a wonder their child wasn't drop dead gorgeous, and in Kat's eyes, she was. At four and a half years old, her mother could already see that she would one day make a beautiful young woman. With a mixture of their complexions, Jacquelyn had just dark enough skin to glow with a natural tan. Her raven colored hair held a slight wave and just barely grazed her shoulders. High cheek bones, a beautiful bright smile, but what got most people's attention was the large, innocent looking pair of blue green eyes. Just as Kat had said earlier, the girl was intelligent with Ian's brains, but had Kat's attitude and short temper. Looking up into Ian's eyes, she shook her head lightly. "Why don't you just come meet her?" she asked.
Kat wasn't stupid enough to bring Jacquelyn with her, just like when she left for work everyday, she left the young girl with a close friend that offered to babysit for her. Amelie was a stay at home mom with a daughter close to Jacquie's age, so it made things easy. Living in a small apartment just outside Diagon Alley, it didn't take much for Kat to drop the girl with Amelie just a few doors down. Regretfully, she slowly pulled away from Ian, managing to slip her fingers into his hand. Arching a single dark eyebrow up at him, she smiled lightly. "You don't have more important things to take care of, do you?" she asked softly. She knew a lot came with being headmaster, and she understood that.

Ian’s grin grew as his ears picked up her soft words. “Good,” he smiled, tilting his head to look down at her. He lifted a hand to press against the back of her head, cradling her in his arms. “I wasn’t planning on letting you,” he admitted softly. Katarin had always been perfect in his eyes; what flaws she had weren’t flaws to Ian. He held her to his chest with a slight air of protectiveness, though he knew full-well that Kat could handle herself. He’d always been careful around her, his actions loving in a way that felt oddly natural. Ian couldn’t stand losing her, and the only thing keeping him from running after her when she left was an obligation to let her have whatever it was she wanted.
He grinned again, lost in his thoughts as he held the woman he loved the smallest bit closer. As if they could get much closer to one another. Katarin was his addiction, in a way. Trying to let her go, he’d only felt pain and withdrawal. And now that he held her again, Ian couldn’t help but notice those feelings he felt for her grow considerably. Maybe being away from her had done more good than he’d realized; surely he loved her more than ever, and he’d realized just how precious she was to him. “God, how did I live without you?” he chuckled slightly, though his words were more serious than one would think. The question had been ramming around in his head since he’d brushed the hair from her face minutes before.
He listened quietly as their hearts began to find each other in time. Ian had never experienced close to such with anyone other than Kat, and he never expected to. It was as if they were made for one another, a fact he gladly reveled in now that she was with him again. She fit comfortably in his arms, as opposed to the awkward uncomfortable feeling of previous girlfriends. It was obvious that other relations he’d held were nothing compared to how he felt about Katarin; she was the only girl he’d ever wanted after he’d crushed on her. The only other girl he felt the same about was Jacquelyn, and those feelings were on a whole new level. Ian blinked softly, pulled from his trance as he felt Kat’s stunning dark eyes on him once more. Meet her … meet his daughter. He chewed over the thought as a small wave of nerves crashed over his mind. He wanted to meet Jacquelyn—wanted it with all his heart—but he couldn’t help but feel anxious about it; the last thing he wanted was for his daughter to hate him for being away for so long.
He frowned inwardly as Kat pulled away from him, and Ian was slapped in the face by reality—there was no way he could stay holding her forever. He wrapped her fingers around hers, the contact almost a lifeline in the addiction he held to Katarin. Ian couldn’t help but smile knowingly when she asked if he had more important things to do. “Nothing’s nearly as important to me,” he answered, smiling softly. Lifting his free hand to his lips, Ian stuck his thumb and forefinger in his mouth, whistling sharply to call his phoenix to him. “One second,” he turned his head to look at the woman beside him, a loving expression taking over his features almost immediately after catching her in his sight. He was forced to turn away again as the sound of wings filled the Entrance Hall. “Aiden?” He looked up at the phoenix. “Tell Shania I’m going out for a while.” Ian wanted little to deal with the troublesome bird’s antics at that moment, giving his pet no chance to land. As for having to communicate, Aiden was a smart bird, he could figure it out on his own.
Ian turned back to Katarin willingly, squeezing her hand gently in his. “Alright; let’s go.”

Kat felt safe in Ian's arms, allowing his warmth to consume her as he cradled her in his arms. Her eyes closed as his intoxicating scent filled her lungs. There was not a smell in the world that she adored more. His voice vibrated through his chest, meeting her ears as he told her he wouldn't let her go. The statement made her smile, she couldn't help it. There were times she wished he had come after her before, and knowing that he had no intention on letting her go if she left again comforted her. Hopefully there wouldn't be a next time. With the feelings that were now pulsing through her entire body, she couldn't see any reason to leave. Ian was even more perfect now than he was five years ago, and he had always been perfect in her eyes.
As silence once again entered the entrance hall, it was nowhere near the awkward, heavy silence that filled it only moments before. Kat was extremely grateful she had opted to appear at Hogwarts that day, to finally reveal to Ian what had caused her to leave so long ago. Feeling him pull her ever so slightly closer, her mind was filled of only thoughts of him. Nothing else mattered to her. How, she wondered, could she ever of had the will to walk away from him? Again, she heard him speak, as if reading her thoughts. Shifting so she could look up into his addictive blue eyes, she smiled. "The same way I lived without you. In hope that I might see you again."
Realization dawned on Kat as their hearts beat as one. She was only meant to be with one man her entire life, and he was standing her in front of her, holding her in his arms. Sure, she had tried to see other men after she left him, but never did they make her feel the way Ian did. It didn't help that her daughter held a gaze that only caused guilt to arise after every date. No, it was clear that the two were made for each other, and she had absolutely no problem with that. Standing here now, in his arms, she reveled in the fact that she had only wanted to be with him.
Looking up at Ian as he thought about meeting his daughter, Kat's stomach began to turn in the silence. She could feel the tension that suddenly ran through his body. Seconds seemed to go by like hours as she waited for his response. Things were going to good, how could he not want to meet the daughter he so desperately sought information about? Her own nerves eased as he wrapped his fingers around hers. A smile returning his as he finally spoke, putting all her nerves to ease immediately. She watched him as he called his phoenix, nothing but affection in her chocolate colored eyes. There was only one other person in the world that could make her as happy as Ian could, and that was an entirely different level of happiness.
With the sound of wings, a phoenix entered the entrance hall and Kat's breath was taken away. It was such a beautiful animal, and no matter how many times she saw one, it always seemed to captivate her. Staring at the bird as it flew, she barely heard the man beside her call out his orders. Watching the bird turn and disappear again, she felt Ian squeeze her hand, bringing her back to what was going on. She smiled brightly at him, nodding before leading him out of the castle.
