Licking at his ice cream, Shane arched an eyebrow at Ryan's comment. "Last time I checked, I was bald and didn't have curves," he laughed, running his free hand over his head and knowing full well the girl was teasing. He could take a joke. He hadn't quite looked like a teenager even in his teenage years. Sure, he had acne up until he was about eighteen, but after he hit about fifteen he didn't look his age anymore, he always looked older than he was as he was growing up. Maybe it was because he was always tall for his age, he didn't know. He did know that once he hit about twenty five it was as if he stopped aging, looking back at pictures you could hardly tell the difference through the years.
Shane couldn't believe his ears. Such a bright and cheerful girl, how could she have hated her teenage years? "Mine were filled with dreams of playing for the pros," he said simply. Turns out, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. He liked his job at the school much better. He was happy to hear Ryan was liking her career choice. He couldn't imagine Quidditch without the professionals. Sure, he hadn't been cut out to play, but someone had to do it and he was glad Ryan was happy playing.

She smiled, “It’s harder to be a teenager when you’re a girl. One day you don’t have to worry about a thing and the next day you wake up and have to wear a bra your shirts don’t look right.” She laughed and looked down at her own chest for a second, “I never had that problem though.” She had no problem making fun of herself. She made fun of herself a lot, but it didn’t really blow a bubble in her ego.
“Sorry…that may have been a bit too much information.” She blushed after thinking about her statements for a few seconds. “I cant think of a way to change the subject now.” She giggled. She laughed in some manner quite a bit, she was bubbly and couldn’t help it. Her hair turned blonde as she giggled, her control out of her grasp yet again.

Shane nodded with a shrug. He wasn’t a girl, so all he could do was trust what Ryan was telling him was true. She had an… odd way of stating things, but the professor found it entertaining. It was as if he could never grow tired of talking to the girl. He was a bit uneasy talking about girl stuff. He never really had to deal with it, and he was sure it was probably obvious on his face. Her laugh settled him a bit, and he gave a nervous laugh, though it was quite. His chocolate brown eyes followed hers to her chest, but as soon as he realized what he had done, he quickly looked away, feeling his ears get pink.
He recovered himself as she apologized and looked her in the eye. “I think you’re beautiful,” he stated simply and rather on the quiet end of the scale. She seemed hard on herself, and he didn’t know why. He spoke the truth, sure her brightly colored hair was something one had to get used to, but once you got by that, she was really a beautiful young woman. He smiled as she laughed. Something about it possessed the power to brighten any mood.

She had missed what he had done with his eyes, she was oblivious by nature. She blushed again when he said she was beautiful, “Thank you. You know your not that bad of a looker either.” It was true. She had had a crush on him when she was younger, and now she was talking to him,
Her young-age fan girlness kicked in all of a sudden and she just about squealed, but she stopped herself. Ryan wondered where that had come from while she looked up at Shane. He was so much taller than her she sort of had teeter forward on her toes to be anywhere near eyelevel. “ You’re also surprisingly nice. Most people as awesome as you have such an ego.” She smiled sweetly.

Shane couldn’t help a bit of a smile, as Ryan returned the statement. “I guess our good looks are just one more thing to add to our things in common.” he stated. It seemed fate had brought them together that day in Diagon Alley, and Shane was glad that it happened. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be the last time the two spoke.
A bit of a questioning look appeared on Shane’s features as a strange look appeared on Ryan’s face, but just as quickly as it had appeared, it was gone. Shrugging it off, he decided not to ask. He smiled full on at her second comment. ”You’re the one in the pros, not me. I’m just a professor at Hogwarts.” he shrugged. It seemed a long time ago that he had been playing in the pros, and as fond as he was of the memories, he was happy with his job at Hogwarts. He was almost happier now than he was before. He loved teaching the kids, seeing the look on their faces when they finally get up off the ground. “You’ve got a small ego for a pro, as well” he replied.

She laughed, “You were better than I am, and Im a bad pro.” She smiled, “ The snitch frequently escapes my grasp lately, gravity has a negative effect on me. It hates me.” Ryan HAD been falling off a lot lately. She was told to take bolder moves to grab the snitch, one involved hanging on her broom by her knees, feet above the audience. Good for show and catching. She fell into the middle of the crowd.
“I used to be able to do fancy flying, but lately I cant.” She believed she was accepted into the pros because of her size, she was faster because she was small and she could fit in small spaces to chase after the snitch. “ Yep. Gravity has brought my ego down to size.” She laughed. She enjoyed talking with Shane, she didn’t get to talk to people much outside of her little circle of people. It was nice getting to know someone who didn’t constantly tell her what she did wrong, even she did that to herself.
She was also thankful that this hero didn’t turn out to be a loser, like most others do. “Being a professor is amazing. That would be so much fun!I am jealous, I love my job I really do, but yours actually helps people.”

Shane arched one of his eyebrows. ”What do you mean were? I’m just as good now as I was then. I’m not that old.” he smiled, looking down at her. He highly doubted she was a ‘bad’ pro. She just wasn’t giving herself the confidence she needed. He listened intently as she explained her recent problems. ”I’m telling you, swing by Hogwarts, I’d love to see you fly first hand, and who knows, maybe I can help you out.” Again, he listened. Maybe she already knew the problem without actually knowing it.
”Bad spells happen, you just have to push through them and get back on your game,” he offered. He knew she probably heard that from her coaches and other teammates, but he couldn’t help it. Quidditch was in his blood. ”You shouldn’t blame gravity, most of the time it’s minor mistakes in the players that cause things. Some people get lazy, others get into bad habits they aren’t even aware of.” The later had happened to him while he was in the pros. Somehow, he got in the habit of sitting too far up on the broom. It gave him a loss of control and he couldn’t figure out what was wrong, even after he took several nose dives.
He simply smiled as she stated she was jealous of his job. Still, he felt the pros was the right place for Ryan.

Ryan smiled, “Thanks for the advice Grandpa.” She joked as she stuck her tongue out. She wasn’t exactly sure how old he was, she knew older than she was, and by more than a couple years, but not by a huge gap. “I’m sorry that was completely uncalled for.” She was still giggling a little bit, she couldn’t help it. She enjoyed joking around with people, it was what she did.
“And Really, thanks for the advice. I will stop by, you have my word. But I don’t want to talk about Quidditch,” She shook her head as she spoke, “I live my life for it, and right now I have a cute guy and Im talking about my job.” She knew he had loved, and apparently still did, Quidditch. She loved it more than anything as well. She complained, but she wouldn’t give it up for the world. She wanted a normal life one day, but she hoped to ride out the pro sports thing as long as she could. “ What do you do up at Hogwarts? I mean besides being a professor?” She had always wondered what he teachers did…ever. She wasn’t one of those kids who thought her teachers had no lives…but it didn’t seem right for them to be quite, normal.

Shane just shook his head as Ryan called him Grandpa. It was obvious by the tone of her voice she was joking, and he honestly wasn’t that old. He was 35, old enough to know what he’s doing, but young enough to still have fun. He leaned down a bit so he could look her more in the eyes than if he stood up straight. ”Don’t be sorry, it was funny” He smiled. He was older than her, there was no way around it. 10 years were between the two as far as age went. In all honesty he wasn’t even old enough to be her dad, and her joking attitude kept the mood between them light and friendly.
”No problem, and I’ll hold you to that. I’ll hunt you down if you break that promise,” he teased. He smiled and nodded as she said she didn’t want to talk about Quidditch. He understood that, but her statement took him off guard. He couldn’t help but smile, but her next question made him stop and think for a second. ”Just like the students, I have homework. I have to grade papers and stuff like that, referee the Quidditch matches, but besides that I’m not held down to anything. I don’t even have to stay on grounds after class if I don’t want to.” He said with a bit of a shrug. He never really thought about that. I mean, it was his life and he did it everyday, but he never really thought about it.

Ryan looked around for a second, and it occurred the two had been standing there for a long while. She looked up at Shane and smiled, “Wanna walk around?” She wanted to see more of the shopping people before she had to return to her room at the inn. She brushed strands of hair behind her ear, while her hair was short a few pieces hung in her face that drove her totally nuts. She was a messy individual who had moments of OCD.

Shane hadn’t realized how long they had been standing there talking to each other until Ryan suggesting they walk around. He looked around, they had been standing in the middle of the street talking for a while. He didn’t feel awkward in doing so however, they weren’t the only ones conversing in the streets. Looking around, there were almost as many people standing around talking as there were people shopping. Adjusting the bag he carried to his other hand, he smiled. ”I’d like that.” he stated. He gestured for her to walk first, just like a gentleman should.
”Hey, how long are you in town for?” he asked. It was a bit of a random question, but wasn’t there entire conversation based on random questions and statements? It was more fun that way. He watched as she brushed a few strands of hair behind her ear. She really was very pretty, in a strange, unique way. Not to mention, she loved Quidditch as much as he did.

Ryan had to stop and think about that. She had been here a short while, but she didn’t have to long until she had to return. She got lost in that thought and it took her a few moments to answer Shane’s question, “Oh! Umm….I think about another week and a half.” She looked to the ground, “Gotta get back to Whales then though.” She nodded as she walked, “I sort of wish I played here in England, miss my family and friends.” She got a lot of time to see them, her team wasn’t exactly the best in the world. They were a fair team, but an all girl team cant stand up to the teams that have more muscle.
“I am excited to see my team, I mean we just saw each other but they are like my sisters y’know?” She was close with her teammates, and those they worked closely with. During the season theyw ere each other’s friends and family.

Shane walked alongside Ryan, waiting patently for her answer. A small smile pulled at his lips as she finally answered. He nodded, knowing she’d probably want to spend a majority of that time with her family and close friends. He understood what it was like being away all the time, most of the time he was away from his family, living up at the castle. Still, he had to try, right? ”Well, if your not too busy, I’d like to buy you dinner one night,” he said smoothly. He wasn’t the greatest at asking people out, but you can’t fly with a fear of falling.

Ryan’s face lit up and her hair changed to a bright, neon pink color and her eyes changed to match, “REALLY?” She quickly realized how fan girl she sounded and corrected herself, “ I mean, really? I’m actually not really busy…ever. My sister is always busy and even then her husband really doesn’t seem to like me much, and I don’t really talk to my mom…and my friends are all sort of pregnant…which is weird and uncomfortable to be around them. I stare at there bellies, which is weird.” She was babbling. When she wasn’t sounding giddy like a fan girl she was babbling. She just couldn’t get it right. She took a deep breath, and laughed.
“I mean, I would love to go to dinner with you.” She smiled, her cheeks were pinker than her hair and her hands were clasped together like they were super-glued.

Shane couldn’t help a smile as Ryan turned pink… everywhere. He simply nodded, trying not to laugh as she babbled on. It was cute, in an awkward kind of immature way. She was talking so fast, he could barely understand her, but somehow, he managed to make out everything. Finally, he couldn’t contain it anymore and allowed a rather muffled laugh to escape his lips. Luckily, Ryan laughed just at that moment as well. ”Alright,” he smiled, rather relieved that she accepted. ”How does Friday night sound?” he asked, maneuvering through the crowded alley with ease.
In all honestly, the two didn’t really have that much in common. Alright, so they were both in love with Quidditch, played in the pros and thought each other attractive. That was about it. They didn’t even agree on what flavor ice cream was better. Still, Shane found Ryan to be a great deal of fun to talk to and, to say the least, their conversations never got boring. He hoped he’d be able to spend a bit more time with the girl than he had in the past. Really, they didn’t talk at all before. A ‘hi’ every now and then, but no real conversation. He was glad he approached her that afternoon.
