Animagus -- Animagi can change into the form of an animal. The magic for this transformation is very complex and advanced, and very few wizards even attempt it. This special power is NOT genetic.
When a wizard transforms into his or her Animagus form, there is usually some visual resemblance. For Example: McGonnagal wore glasses. In her cat form, there are markings around her eyes, resembling glasses.
In JK's book series, she informs that there are only about ten registered Animagi. Thus, the number of animagi on this forum will be kept down. Characters are required to be registered unless not being registered fits with a plot. The plot must be explained to the admins.
More information can be found at the HP Lexicon.
Legilimens -- Legilimens are talented and gifted in the art of Legilimency. This talent is also LEARNED, not genetic. Legilimency is the art of mind-reading. It is a very complex magic to learn and very few wizards (five at most) are actual masters of this art.
To some wizards, however, this art may come easily. Wizards who fall in this category also must have a plot that deals with this. This plot must be explained to the administrators.
More information can be found at the HP Lexicon.
Metamorphmagus -- A metamorphmagus is, unlike most of these wizard types, BORN with this talent. These wizards are able to transform their appearance at will. This does NOT, however, include transforming into an animal. This DOES include hair length, body part size and shape, hair and eye color, etc.
Occlumens -- Occlumens are talented and gifted in the art of Occlumency. These wizards are able to block the probing minds of a Legilimens. This talent is LEARNED, not genetic, and again like Legilimency, it is a very hard art to learn.
To some wizards, however, this art may come easily. Wizards who fall in this category also must have a plot that deals with this. This plot must be explained to the administrators.
More information can be found at the HP Lexicon.
Parselmouth -- These wizards have the ability to speak to snakes and to command them. The snake language is known as 'Parseltounge.' This ability is GENETIC, however it may skip a few generations before appearing.
Due to this ability being extremely rare, if you want your character to have this ability, you must have a good reason/plot. Explain this to the admins.
More information can be found at the HP Lexicon.
Seer -- Seers have the rare gift of the Inner Eye. This is the ability to give prophesies. When prophesising, the Seer is most likely unaware of his or her actions. His or her voice may appear changed, or demonic, even. The only ones to remember a prophesy are those who witness the event, not the Seer his or herself.
Wandless Magic -- Wizards who possess the talent to use wandless magic are very powerful. This talent is LEARNED, rare, and hard to accomplish.
