Jessica entered the Leaky Cauldron, smiling a greeting at the aged tavern keeper before heading upstairs to her apartment. She dug through her bag in the hallway, pulling out a set of keys to unlock her door before going in. Jess grinned as a happy yipping filled the room, followed by a series of tell-tale clicks of doggy nails hitting the floor. She smiled down at Lucy, the pocket beagle she’d adopted a few weeks ago, answering a quick and happy “Hold on, hold on!” at Lucy’s excited jumps and leaps around her ankles. She unloaded the bags of groceries on the kitchenette’s counter, turning and dropping to her knees to subject to Lucy’s greeting.
After answering Lucy’s licks and yips with loving pets and scratches, Jessica stood once more, unpacking the groceries she’d brought in and putting them away. She sighed, moving to the sink and picking up a small metal watering can that sat beside it; filling the can up with water, she couldn’t help but remember the flashback she’d had several days before. The memory had made her heart swell, but at the same time, who was that man? And where was he now? Snapping out of her thoughts, Jessica lifted the full watering can from the sink, shutting off the water before moving around the house to water her plants.
She moved to the corner of the living room, lifting a leaf on an orchid when she caught sight of it. Jess let out a startled cry, jumping away from the plant--and the spider she’d spotted. Water sloshed out of the watering can and onto her pants and the floor, but before she could make any move other than to set the watering can onto an end table, her vision grew cloudy and she was no longer standing in her living room.
- - - - - - - A spider. A huge, hairy, freakishly large, fuzzy spider. Jessica was frozen stiff, brown eyes locked on the galleon-sized beast. The warm water continued to flow through the shower spout, unnoticed by the brunette as she watched the spider warily. If the massive thing would just move a little further from the door, she could make a run for it. Jessica stood stock-still for what had to be minutes before the spider moved, and as soon as he did, she was out the shower door. Jessica wrapped a white towel around her wet form before dashing from the room, wet hair plastered to her shoulders and neck. A rather high-pitched scream—almost a squeal, but not a happy one—sounded in the her throat as she ran down the hall, one hand holding the towel around her body. It didn’t take her long to find him, her big savior whom was in the kitchen. Jess’s scream grew the slightest bit louder when she found the man, her brown eyes shining in fear. She sprinted right up to him, taking refuge behind his back as if the monster still in the bathroom were running after her. Burying her wet face into his right shoulder blade, she managed to get out a muffled, high-pitched “Spider!”

Michael stood in the kitchen after their morning run, bottle of water in hand. He had let Jess in the shower first, so just stood sipping at his ice cold water as he waited. His chocolate brown eyes stared thoughtfully out into the living room, there wasn't really anything on his mind, he was just thinking in general. Blinking, he leaned on the counter, wondering what the two of them were going to get into that day. He heard the door to the bathroom open, but he didn't really think about it. As her scream met his ears, his heart plummeting, his mind instantly jumping to the worst possible conclusion. The color draining from his face, he began to make his way through to the hall before Jessica nearly ran him over.
Relieved that she was alright, and though he was still alarmed, he gave her a once over to make sure she was okay. Looking at her questioningly, he glanced back down the hall, as if expecting something to come rushing out at them. When nothing happened, he turned back to the girl now trying to bury herself in his back. Opening his mouth to ask what was going on, his unspoken question was already answered. It figures, a spider. Michael couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the fact. "A spider?" he asked, his tone filled with humor. She had scared the crap out of him when she screamed, but now that he knew had caused it, it seemed almost funny. "Where?"

Jessica pouted, face still tucked firmly into his back as he spoke. “Don’t laugh at me,” she spoke. Her voice was still shaky, fear-filled from the spider she’d almost been eaten by, and yet there was a hint of sarcasm in her tone. She knew he liked to make fun of her fear of spiders, but at the same time, she couldn’t help her phobia. “In the shower,” she answered dutifully, almost like a child speaking to her father. The last thing she wanted was to make her way back to the huge fuzzy … thing, but if this man was there, Jessica ultimately knew she’d be safe.
She squealed, whimpering softly as the memory of the spider played in her mind. There was little reason behind this immense fear Jessica had, but there wasn’t much she could do about it. Spiders were Jess’s ultimate phobia; she feared them with a passion. “Get rid of it,” Jessica pleaded softly, just wanting the thing out of the house. The last thing she wanted was for it to escape. If that happened, she’d be up all night waiting for it to show up on her face or something else equally as frightening.

A smile still appeared on Michael's face as he turned to hold Jessica in his arms. "I wasn't laughing at you," he looked apologetically down into her eyes, though he was still attempting to hold the humor from his voice, to a decent amount of success. As ridiculous as he thought her fear of spiders was, it still pained him inside to hear her voice so full of fear, so vulnerable. Running his fingers gently through her dripping hair. His eyes glanced back at the bathroom, he'd fix it, he always did, didn't he?
He held her tighter against him as she whimpered, not even a brief thought of his shirt getting wet going through his mind. That didn't matter, not at all. Yes, Michael would get rid of the spider, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to have a little fun before doing so. An almost evil smile flashed across his features before disappearing as if it was never there. He nodded at her plea, kissing her gently on the forehead before pulling away, looking around the kitchen. "Okay, where's the fly swatter?" he asked, moving to look in drawers and cupboards. He knew full well he wouldn't actually kill the spider, but he was waiting for her cry of disagreement. He loved making her work for something, besides, it had been too long since he last picked on her for her fear of spiders. "It's got to be in here somewhere," he grumbled, fumbling through yet another drawer.

Jessica’s fear of spiders was … odd, in a way. Though she knew fully well that those creatures that sent chills down her spine had no real reason to hurt her, Jessica still couldn’t quench her fear. There was a part of her mind that was still as rational as could be—she knew that no harm would come to her, knew that the fear was somewhat childish and silly in a way. And yet, she couldn’t take control of the panic that wrapped itself around her at the mere sight of a spider. Jess shook slightly as she buried herself into the man’s arms, yet another reaction she couldn’t quite help. She didn’t say anything when he apologized, the rational part of her brain knowing full well that he didn’t mean anything by it. She smiled shakily into his damp shirt.
She tightened her grip on the towel wrapped around her as he pulled away, her brown eyes flashing as he mentioned the fly swatter. “No!” she cried softly, moving to where he stood and batting his hands away from the drawer before shutting it. “Don’t kill it!” she pleaded, looking up at him sadly. Yes, the one thing Jessica couldn’t stand more than being near a spider was one being killed. She was too much of a kindred spirit to kill anything, and at times she wondered why they had a fly swatter in the first place. She reached out, placing a hand on his back and pushing him gently toward the bathroom. “Just-just … Put it outside! Michael knew how much spiders scared Jessica, and as much as he was there to protect her, he couldn't help but have a bit of a laugh about it. He had no intention of being mean at all, just to poke a bit of fun is all. Everyone had something they were afraid of, and Jessica just happened to be afraid of spiders, Michael didn't mind. He thought it cute in a way, slightly childish, but cute all the same. There was nothing about Jessica that he ever wanted to change and those flaws she may have weren't flaws at all as far as Michael was concerned. Feeling her shake lightly as she buried herself in his arms, Michael felt a slight air of protection. He would never let anything happen to her, and as he wrapped his arms around her, he wanted nothing more than to comfort her in that moment.
Releasing her and searching for a fly swatter, he raised his eyebrows as she cried out, looking at her in fake innocence. He didn't know why they had a fly swatter anyway. It wasn't like either of them were going to kill anything with it. He pulled his hands away from the draw as she batted at him, holding them up in defeat. Opening his mouth, he was about to come back with a bit of a sarcastic reply, but the sadness there in her eyes caught him and brought him up short. She was so adorable, all he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her once more, but before he could do anything he was brought back to reality as she pushed him toward the bathroom.
His size compared to hers, not to mention his strength, was enough that if Jessica tried with all her might to push or pull him somewhere he didn't want to go, he wasn't going. Yet, he allowed her to push him toward the bathroom a bit of a smile on his face. "Alright, is there a preference which window you want me to let him out of?" he asked in a mocking tone as he entered the bathroom. Glancing around it didn't take him long to find the spider still clinging to the shower door. It was fairly decent sized, he had to admit. Ugly too, it's long hairy legs stretched out. He almost immediately knew which subspecies the creature belonged to and also recalled that it was harmless.
A mischievous smile taking over his features, he gently scooped the spider into his hand, allowing to to crawl around, but making sure it remained on his hand. Making his way back through the hall, he scanned the apartment for his fiance, who he found waiting in the kitchen. Holding the spider out in front of him so she could see, he pouted. "Look how cute he is!" he whined, staring down at the spider. "Can I keep him?" he asked, holding him up and giving Jessica the most innocent faces he could muster. [/blockquote]
