Xander sat at a table toward the back of the library. His head was rested heavily on his arm and he stared out the window. From where he was sitting he could just see the quidditch pitch. He had been in the library 'studying' for a test he had in potions the following day. A stack of rather large books sat on the table next to him, one was open in front of him and a messy pile of parchment sat on the other side of him. His quill sat in his bottle of ink and his backpack sat on the floor against the leg of the table.
He was so sick of studying he couldn't even look at the text anymore. It was such a nice day outside and he was stuck indoors. When was he ever going to use potion making as a professional quidditch player? He asked himself, his mind drifting to the pitch. Taking a long, sleepy, breath in, he shifted his position. Leaning back in the chair he stretched, whipping his face trying to concentrate again. Glancing back at the book in front of him, he flipped it closed. A small thud reached his ears and he stood.
Xander wore a regular pair of faded blue jeans, a red t-shirt with a random design on it and a pair of black boots. A wrist watch adorned his left wrist and a silver chain hung around his neck. Grabbing the book, he moved to put it back on the shelf. He figured he'd wake himself up if he walked around a bit. He walked down a slender isle between the bookshelves and turned to walk down another when he bumped into somebody. Fumbling with the book in his loose grip, he looked to see who he had bumped into. "Sorry," he mumbled.

Kai didn't know why she was in the library. She guessed it was from a lack of something better to do. Humming a tune in her head she brushed back a loose strand of hair and bobby-pinned it back to her head with the rest of her mass of curls. She wore her favorite pair of Gray sweatpants and a pair of converse. Over top of her tank top she wore a ratty sweatshirt that she had cut a neck hole in. She had owned this sweatshirt since her first year here and even though she wasn't a sentimental person, this article of clothing still was 'special' to her.
She pulled out at book out of the shelf and opened it with mild interest. She really didn't know what it was about or even what the title was, just that it looked old and worn. Replacing it on the shelf she continued down the isle and turned the corner only to run into an unknown figure. She let out a gasp and muttered her apologies over and over again.
((kinda random but you get the point

Xander looked at the figure he had run into. It was a blond girl he hadn't seen before, she must have been in a different house than he. "Sorry," he said again, dropping his gaze. "I didn't mean to bump into you." he said, his eyes remaining on the floor, a slight blush appearing on his high cheek bones.
Suddenly he remembered he was holding the potions book in his hand and glanced around the nearby shelves for an empty spot he could place it in. Seeing one, he reached over and slid it onto the shelf, it more than likely wasn't the book's proper place, but Xander didn't really care. Looking quickly back to the girl in front of him, he muttered "I'm Xander by the way."

Kai straightened the sweatshirt and brushed a loose strand behind her ear. She smiled a little with a sympathetic look on her face. "Hey, don't worry about it. No harm done." Trying to hide the smile that was spreading across her face from the color on his face, she shifted her weight to the other leg and crossed her arms over her chest.
She gave him a quizzical look when her carelessly replaced the book he was holding into a random spot. "You better not get caught doing that" She let the sarcasm and playfulness flow heavy in her remark. she didn't want him to think she was some kind of prude on book treatment. Offering a friendly smile she said, "I'm Kai."

Xander looked at the girl and shrugged as she mentioned not getting caught. "You're not gonna rat me out, are you?" He asked. He couldn't care less if he got yelled at by the librarian, seriously, it was a rarity to find him in the library in the first place. After all, it wasn't like he was dropping the book from the top of the owlery, he was simply placing it on the wrong shelf. He returned her smile with a shy one of his own. "What house are you in?" He asked, trying to place her but couldn't really think of where she would be, though he was pretty sure she wasn't a Gryffindor. ((Ick, it's short, but you get the point.))

Barley able to contain the smile on her face she replied teasingly, "Nah, I think I'll let it slide this time." She gave him a wink and Finlay let the smile cross her face and reach her eyes. she didn't know why all of a sudden she was OK with talking to people since the last time she tried to have a conversation she ended up tripping all over her words. It started to get hot in the old dusty library. Turning she walked over to one of the wooden tables and leaned over it to the window and opened it slightly than sat down and motioned for him to join her. "I'm a Hufflepuf. How about you?"

((Random OOC comment: It's getting hot in here! So take off all your clothes! I am getting so hot... sorry I had to when I read your post.)) Xander gave Kai a small smile before dropping his gaze to his hands. A blush crept over his cheeks again as she winked at him. Noticing her movement, he looked back up. Watching as she moved toward the window, he wondered if he had said something wrong and yet again made himself look like a total idiot.
Curiously Xander watched as Kai opened the window and sat down, a feeling of relief moved through him as she motioned for him to sit with her. The idea that he had said something wrong, or made himself look like a fool disappeared from his mind and he made his way over to the table. Sitting across the table from her, he fidgeted with his fingers. "Gryffindor." He stated with a shrug. His eyes wandered out the window, from this seat he could see the quidditch pitch much easier. Looking back at the Hufflepuff across him, he smiled slightly. "Do you play quidditch?" he asked. He couldn't help but ask, the sport had consumed his life since he was young. He'd been on a broom ever since he was big enough to get on one and has dreamed of nothing else than to play for a professional team.

((Ha,Ha,Ha. None of that thanks
Kai wondered why in the world the Gryffindor was so nervous. She didn't think that she was that intimidating. At least she'd never been told that. Sure, she had been called a blabber mouth, but it was just a nervous habit that wore off after a while of talking with someone. Making a mental note not to push him to far, she nodded once. Ah, a Gryffindor, the old stereotype raced through her mind again. Quiet, Smart, Gentle, All around Goody-Two-Shoes. It was definitely different from her, a Thrill seeker, occasional trouble maker, and average grades.
At his next comment she pushed it out of her head and made herself concentrate on the conversation before her. "No, I would like to, but i just don't have enough time. Or the discipline." Man, she was making herself sound like a slacker. She decided to just shut up for the time being and let him do some talking. Leaning back in her chair she pulled her legs up to her chest and looked at him through her long lashes.
((wow, so not good. muse left for spring break!!

Xander couldn't help the way he acted, it was just the way he got around girls. He'd been that way ever since he started liking girls, with the exception of Ava. He had been friends with Ava so long, she was like his sister and he felt like he could tell her anything. Xander just got nervous and stuttered and acted like a total idiot when he was around girls, and he hated himself for that. Yes, he was a Gryffindor, but by no means did he fit the stereotype. Sure, he was quiet, especially around the opposite sex. As far as smarts went, he studied and did his homework, but he got by with just average marks. He could be gentle, but he wouldn't think twice about fighting for what he believed in, or if someone hurt his friends, he would definitely fight back. But no, he wasn't a goody-two-shoes. He enjoyed breaking the rules here and there and was sarcastic around his friends and such. All right so maybe he did belong in Gryffindor, but whatever.
Xander quietly looked back at the Hufflepuff girl as she explained she didn't play. It seemed like most of the people he met didn't play. It made it a bit harder for him to talk about anything, but that was okay. He nodded, dropping his eyes to his fingers on the table. "I do," he said quietly, though he was sure she didn't really care. He couldn't think of anything else to say really. He didn't want her to think of him as a stupid jock. ((Dont' worry about it, I'm just now getting muse back for Xander.))

Kai smiled shyly. "Oh cool. I wanted to play but my parents wouldn't let me because they thought it would "get in the way of my studies" or something like that" She made quotation marks in the air and shook her head a little. Her parents were the kind that didn't care if you were the ugliest, fattest person in school, as long as you could carry a 4.0. Kai, however was more the opposite. Wanting to keep the conversation moving and not let awkward silence get between them she asked "So tell me a bit about yourself. What year are you, What's your favorite subject, favorite teacher, favorite team. Stuff like that." She leaned forward on her elbows with a smile on her face and a interested look in her eyes. Forget not coming off as pushy, it wasn't her and she couldn't hold it back much longer before she exploded. She only hoped that he wouldn't think her bossy or nosy.

Xander nodded as she said she wanted to play but her parents would let her. His parents didn't really care. His dad owned a broom shop in Diagon Alley and his mom helped out and took care of him and his brother. He'd been on a broom since he could remember and had started playing for the house team in his first year. He'd been the quidditch captain since his fifth year.
He glanced up at the girl but quickly averted his eyes as she asked him about himself. Questions he could answer, it was just finding things to talk about that messed with him. "I'm in my seventh year, flying is my favorite subject but if that doesn't really count then I would have to say charms, Relm was my favorite teacher, and Ireland conquers all. What about you?" He asked, speaking more to his hands than her. He made sure to answer all the questions she listed off.
He didn't really mind her asking him the questions. It made it a bit easier to talk to her. He couldn't help but sit there nervously unless he could think of something to say. As long as they talked normally he'd be able to talk to her. If she got any closer or tried anything flirty he'd start to stutter and lose all ability to speak - not to mention Charity would flip.

It sorta bugged her why he wouldn't even look at her. Was she really that intimidating? She didn't think so. But that was just the way some people were. Every time she asked him a question she made sure that she made a point of looking him in the eyes even though he wouldn't return her gaze. After a while, she got used to him talking to his hands and let the matter drop, not even knowing if he'd seen her.
She listened and rattled off her answerers on her fingers. "I'm a fifth year, I like Herbology, I know its geeky but hey, I like any teacher that I don't have to argue with, and I am also an Ireland fan. Although probably not as much as you are." She looked around the library for something else to talk about. Her mind wandered back to the "run in". "So what was the book you had in your hands?" She knew it was a lame question but she just couldn't think of anything else to ask.

No, Kai wasn't that intimidating. It was just that he couldn't look at her, or any other girl, it was just the way he was. He didn't mean to offend her by any means, but he just couldn't help it. Every time she spoke, he could feel her looking at him, and a couple times he tried to look up at her, but it just didn't stick. Again, Xander glanced up at Kai briefly as she talked. A small smile appeared on his face when she mentioned being an Ireland fan too. "Do you think they'll make it to the cup this year?" He asked.
His gazed dropped as she asked about the book he had put away. His mind went back to the table he had left all his notes and books at, but decided he'd get them later. "Potions," he shrugged. "I was studying for a test I have tomorrow." He wasn't bothered by the question, it was just something he happened to be doing. Though he didn't like studying, he wasn't embarrassed by it. He had to keep his grades up.

Kai took his smile as a little progress that she had made. She scrunched up her face thoughtfully and replied. "I sure hope so. Even though I wont be able to see it, it would be great if they did. What about you?" She was glad they had found something in common. Conversation could easily turn boring if the two participants couldn't find common ground to talk on. Kai had found this out the hard way and didn't need nor want a reminder. "Oh, I didn't mean to interrupt. I can go if you want me to." She didn't want to seem rude but she didn't want to leave either. She was enjoying herself and it was nice to have some other company rather than her text book and Quill.

Xander nodded. "Yeah, they've been doing really good this season. So hopefully they'll make it to the finals." He shrugged, opening up just a bit more as he talked about quidditch. I don't know, it was just something the Gryffindor was so passionate about, it didn't matter who he was talking to about it. He could go on and on talking about it. There was just something about the topic that made him forget about his shyness around girls or about not looking like an idiot.
Xander glanced quickly to the Hufflepuff across the table from him before shaking his head. "No, it's fine." He reassured her. "I needed a break anyways." He added, shifting his position in the chair so he was more comfortable. By no means did Xander think Kai was being rude, and he certainly didn't want her to leave. That would mean he would have to go back to studying, or sleeping if you will. At least that's what he would be doing if he hadn't bumped into the girl.
