Melrose gaped after Gavin had hit her, hand rising to touch her stinging cheek. Mel’s eyes narrowed as he spoke—remaining oddly silent the whole time. Well, silent until he once again stated that they were the same. They weren’t; they couldn’t be … right? Clenching her fists, she looked defiantly up at him as he began to smoke once more. Anger and adrenaline coursed through the Gryffindor’s veins. No one—no one—touched her like that, least of all Gavin.
Lifting her own arm, she smacked him across the face—hard. “Bastard,” she hissed, backhanding the other side of his face before finally dropping her arm to her side. “Don’t you ever touch me again,” she warned as the bar went silent. Turning on a heel, she grabbed her jacket from the corner of the bar, making her way to the door, but pausing before she opened it.
“And for the record,” she pointed out, calling over her shoulder, “I’m nothing like you.” She turned fully to face Gavin once more, raising her chin in that superior way she carried herself. “Nor will I ever be.” Pulling the door open, she stepped into the cold air. Shrugging her jacket on, Melrose looked up and down the alley once before beginning the long trek back to Hogwarts, praying to God that Gavin didn’t follow her.

Gavin stopped for a second when she hit him, he was expecting it, but it still hurt. Then slowly laughter escaped his lips, “ You hit like a girl.” Shotty comeback, he was aware, but it didn’t matter. The room was silent but he just took a few more drags on his cigarette before stomping it out on the ground.
He wasn’t sure what he planned to do next, a few options came to his mind. Follow Melrose angrily, just plain follow her, or sit back down. One option of made up for him when the bartender pushed him out of the bar by the back of his neck with stung under his hands. It was a pretty tolerant place, but it didn’t tolerate abuse and he had just hit a girl.
Gavin stuck his hands in his pockets and walked toward the main shops, quite a ways away he saw Melrose, though he didn’t bother to say anything, she wouldn’t be able to hear him. Still he kept her insight, thinking about what to do next.

Melrose examined the dark streets silently as she walked, not really knowing what to do. Surely she didn’t want to go back to Hogwarts to confront Jon, but at the same time, she would much rather that over dealing with Gavin. And still, the thought of neither was much more appealing. Pausing, Mel looked around at the empty stores around her.
Well, there went that idea. Shopping would have been an obvious time-waster for the girl, but considering the only shop open was some sort of wizard robe thrift store? Well… Sighing, she made to continue down the cobblestone path, heels clicking against it as she walked. It didn’t seem fair that the universe was forcing her back to the castle. Melrose could see it now: she’d head straight to her dorm, only to be confronted by Jon in the common room.
‘Fuck.’
